Advancing Child Trauma Screening Practices

Child trauma screening practices have advanced considerably as child-serving systems increasingly incorporated early identification and intervention into trauma-informed models of care. While research points to the necessity that attend a child’s developmental capacities, cultural background, relational strengths, contextual details surrounding traumatic experience, complex considerations, many these features remain absent in common brief measures used practice. Pictorial may offer an innovative opportunity address attentional concerns capacities young complexly traumatized children, yet are understudied this area. The purpose paper is threefold: 1) highlight areas for expansion within current models, 2) propose evidence-informed framework pictorial tool 3) implementation considerations piloting proposed tool. Piloting importance cognitive interviewing, sensitivity, development companion response referral protocol, embedding principles care training process.
